Goodbye Veggie Hello Vegan !
i have finally completed my transition to being a vegan. Not a pretend vegan, but a 100% vegan. i bought a nice hemp wallet from my local health food store. It is sold by North American Hemp Co. and it was made in Nepal and it is beautiful. The price? i don't think you're going to believe this, but less than $10. As you might be interested to know, my transition to veganism began with a free screening of The Witness and a real re-examination of my core belief system. Actually it wasn't that hard. Before that i was an omni who ate lacto-ovo at least 95% of the time, fish the other ~5%.

Many thanks to the folks at Tribe of Heart and my local health food store.

As i then wrote on another message board :
"i finally stopped dreaming last night. Last night courtesy of Stanford Vegan Action, i enjoyed a free screening of The Witness. While squirming though this movie, i was constantly trying to justify my over the top dairy consumption and still calling myself veg*n. Perhaps i liked the cutsie label i don't know. But by the time of the question and answer session after the film with John Robbins, producer James LaVeck and director Jenny Stein, the point was brought home when someone asked near the end why doesn't the film address leather and fur, just fur only. The answer by Mr. Robbins: There are just a multitude of issues when it comes to active AR. i made the switch right there. i will kick the dairy products, as in all of them. However i will need time to get rid of my leather shoes. And perhaps i will never be considered by vegan purists to be 100% vegan, because my continued use of bee pollen for health reasons stand in the way. So i'm still only a veggie. Woe is me! But i can live with that for now."
i have completed my journey.

Wow! i just got back from Bay Area VegFair 2003. Only one word for it... dyn-o-mite!

First off i saw Gene Bauston, cofounder of Farm Sanctuary, speak. He was very good. He knew his stuff.

Next up Alka Chandna, mucho energy very charming.

Then came John McDougall. He was very well spoken very entertaining and just had so much energy. Finally a medical doctor i could trust! Yes he was all that.

Then Howard Lyman - the most famous vegetarian in Montana! He was very knowledgeable, very entertaining and like McDougall before him - so much energy! i liked his presentation because he doesn't like to mince words, he tells it like it is. He went into detail about the Mad Cow/Oprah affair. He reminded us that "Free Speech isn't Free." How true.

Maybe you had to be there to understand what i mean. The vibes were just killer. i left early because i didn't think that i could stomach another screening of The Witness.

All in all a very good day. The sun was even shining as i left.

Whoa! Some good news for me this weekend. The Bay Area VegFair 2003 is coming to town and i will be going. As i am about to hit rock bottom as far as living conditions go, i will start to post more often what my activities are, and what i eat.
lunch: One cultured soy yogurt, one vegan sambosa and one banana.
dinner: One poppyseed bagel from WholeFoods with peanut butter.
This is also posted at Spin and Propaganda and Paradise Lost my homeless weblog extensions. Working to save my van, but it seems impossible to get it smogged unless i rebuild the motor and spend literally hundreds on new smog equipment.

Just became homeless again last Sunday 22 Ocotober 2000. Mainly due to a violent and greedy landlord, I mean slumlord, and a classic one. I spent close to a whole year trying to get rid of all the losers and undesireables who rented and/or were otherwise staying at his house. Then he throws me out as the icing on the cake. Anyway went back to my campsite as I had exactly zero options at this point. It's now known as the "jungle", as my Mexican compadres call it. Anyway I forgot about all the tons of poison oak that can easily be found where I am staying. Bought some really good anti-poison oak/poison Ivy soap from Burt's Bees at one of the local organic groceries around here. Went to the Bible store to by a Bible. Went to Wal-Mart to buy some pants for work tomorrow. Went to various libraries to surf the 'Net.

Finally made it to the day labor place in time. Went to work, got paid and then went and had some normal food for a change. Macrobiotic/vegetarian is my cup of tea. After eating dinner, I rode my bike past a former Protestant, now Catholic Church and said to myself, "Am I going crazy?" The reason that I said this to myself is that I noticed out of the corner of my eye the awe-inspiring beauty of the stained glass structures, but I also was of the mindset of how oppressively violent yet instrinsically beautiful - in some ways - the JudeoChristian religion has historically been, and the ultimate beauty, yet illogic of all religions. I was also thinking how crazy this world would be without our beliefs in a Supernatural Power, God or otherwise. Went to the library to surf the 'Net.
28 September 1999
Overslept today so did not make the 5:00am day labor job line. Well there is always tomorrow. However secured a used but functional tire for the rear wheel of my mountain bike which has been out of commission for 10 days now. Went to libraries to surf the 'Net.

Quit my job a week ago last friday. Seems like years. Ran out of money Sunday Night. I have been dumpster-diving for food and I haven't been doing too badly. If I encounter anything even remotely edible, I just very patiently remove any meat and meat by products. And then I consume very carefully. I miss not having any bottled water to drink alot also. Went to library to surf the 'Net.

I was now at the game of my choice - "TetRis" - and played two games. Payed my pager and voicemail bills. Went to music store and bought awesome made in Nepal UFO-looking ceremonial bells/chimes for playing in drum circles. I passed on a LP wood block on sale for $5. Maybe next week.
